Medline Maxorb II Alginate Wound Dressings are ultra-absorptive, primary dressings made from 100% calcium alginate. 1  They are designed to manage moderate to heavily draining wounds by transforming into a gel upon contact with wound fluid, creating a moist environment that supports natural healing.

  • Superior Absorbency: It is 70% more absorbent than leading gelling fiber products and significantly more absorbent than the original Maxorb.

  • One-Piece Removal: High wet-strength integrity ensures the dressing removes in one piece, minimizing residue left in the wound bed and making dressing changes more comfortable.

  • Vertical Wicking: Fluid is wicked vertically into the dressing, which helps prevent skin maceration(damage caused by moisture) to the surrounding healthy skin.

  • Extended Wear: Depending on the amount of drainage, these dressings can be left in place for up to 7 days.

The calcium alginate turns into a gel the second it touches drainage, so changing it doesn't rip the new tissue like the gauze I was using before. Kept a heavily draining spot dry for two full days.

I've been using these on a leg ulcer that drains pretty heavily, and the calcium alginate turns into a soft gel that lifts right off without pulling at the new tissue. Way less painful at changes than the gauze I was using before.

These handled my dad's surgical incision drainage way better than the gauze we started with, and they didn't stick to the wound bed at all when we changed them. The calcium alginate really does soak up a lot, so we went from changing dressings twice a day to once.
